Preface
This work is a unique collection of wing sounds from birds and insects. The 63 tracks on this album have
been recorded over a period of 23 years in Israel (1 track), Finland (59 tracks) and the Baltic (3 tracks)
Countries. The recordings have been produced by hiding the recording gear into a bush and leaving it be.
As such no humans were present during the recording process. This results in an authentic recording void
of any warning sounds from alerted birds and mammals. This is the only way to produce high quality
wing sounds, especially for those birds that are naturally shy and prefer to steer away from humans. Some
bird species can be identified by the sound of their wings. When birds fly together, the wing sounds may
be loud at times, i.e. when a migrating flock of geese sets off. Similarly a cloud of insects can produce a
very thick and unified sound wall. However, for the reason stated above, determinations of wing sounds
have not been made for the species in the track descriptions.
The resulting collection really challenges the audio equipment’s ability to reproduce authentic wing
sounds. The album is thus an excellent tool for testing any equipment. A reference point is to be found
from the nearest natural environment were birds and insects as well as their movements can be observed.
Conversely, a smartphone, tablet or a laptop can by no means do justice to said sounds of nature. Paired
with high quality headphones, a CD-player can mostly recreate a mindful listening experience. Good
results can also be achieved with home stereo equipment, provided that proper acoustics and quiet
surroundings are catered for.
